First Annual Ellen Bozman Affordable Housing Award
Presented to AHC Inc.’s Resident Services Program
(December 7, 2009 - Arlington, VA) The Alliance for Housing Solutions (AHS) presented the first annual Ellen Bozman Affordable Housing Award to AHC Inc.’s Resident Services Program at an award dinner on Saturday, December 5 at the Gates of Ballston Community Center in Arlington.
The award honors the late Ellen M. Bozman, long-time Arlington County Board member and leader on affordable housing issues. Mrs. Bozman, a founder and a member of the Alliance for Housing Solutions’ Board of Directors, died earlier this year. The award recognizes an individual or organization that has significantly advanced efforts to increase the supply of and/or to improve the quality of affordable housing in Arlington through leadership, innovation and effectiveness over time.
"It is particularly fitting that the first Ellen Bozman Affordable Housing Award goes to AHC’s Resident Services Program,” said Susan Retz, Alliance for Housing Solutions Chairman. “Not only was Ellen a founder of AHC, but she also was a strong proponent of and a volunteer participant in the program."
AHC’s Resident Services provides onsite education and personal development programs to help low-income families build stronger futures for themselves and their children. Initiated in 1993, AHC’s programs now reach more than 2,000 elementary students, teens, parents, families and seniors.
“AHC is honored to receive the first Ellen Bozman Affordable Housing Award,” said Jennifer Endo, AHC’s Resident Services Director. “Ellen was an inspiration to us all, not just as a community leader, but also as a volunteer. She spent time each week teaching sewing skills to immigrant women and experienced first-hand the value of providing much-needed services to people where they live.”
