MonteVerde Apartments in Park Heights Hosts Thank You Celebration for Dignitaries
The Michael Group Inc. was the General Contractor for the Monte Verde Project
Baltimore, May 4, 2010- Residents, state officials, dignitaries, and stakeholders gathered on a beautiful afternoon in lower Park Heights to celebrate the transformation of the MonteVerde Apartments, a 301 unit affordable housing community. The transformation was striking. What were once dilapidated, outdated, inefficient buildings are now beautiful, modern, efficient high rises that are home to many happy residents. The work, performed by The Michael Group General Contractors in Baltimore City included new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, elevators, heating and cooling systems, wall coverings, flooring and sconces in the hallways, a new roof as well as a new entry building connecting the two towers.
“This was an important community project to work on” said Michael Shacklette, President of the Michael Group Inc and General Contractor for the project. “We are proud of the transformation and we are proud to be part of the redevelopment of Park Heights. We hope to continue working in Park Heights in the coming years.”
The Owner of the MonteVerde Apartments is Greater Baltimore AHC, a local non-profit developer.
“We are here today because we all worked together toward the common goal of developing this beautiful community so that the residents could live in attractive, secure and well-maintained apartments,” said Andrew M. Vincent, director of Greater Baltimore AHC Inc., developer and owner of MonteVerde, formerly Greenhill Apartments, located at 2501-2503 Violet Avenue in the Lower Park Heights neighborhood of the City of Baltimore.
The $30 million purchase and renovation project was financed by $10 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits and $15 million in bonds from the Maryland Community Development Administration, Division of Development Finance of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Additionally, MonteVerde received a PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) from the City of Baltimore.
